BlackBook Help & FAQ

Everything you need to know about using BlackBook — your private, invite-only social network.

Getting Started

BlackBook is invite-only. You need a valid invite code to create an account. Invite codes are in the format XXXX-XXXX and are issued by the site admin. Once you have a code, go to the Sign Up page, enter your code, choose a username and password, and you're in.

Go to the Sign Up page (linked from the login page). Enter your invite code in the first field — it will auto-format as you type. Then choose a username (this is your public handle on the site) and a password of at least 6 characters. Hit Create Account and you'll be logged in immediately.

No. BlackBook does not require an email address at any point. Sign up is code + username + password only. Login is username + password only.

Go to the Login page and enter your username and password. There is no email login — your username is your only identifier on BlackBook.

Click the small sign-out arrow icon at the very bottom of the left sidebar, next to your username and avatar. This logs you out immediately.

After signing up you'll land on your profile. We recommend completing your profile first — add a profile photo, a cover banner, fill in your bio, set your location, and choose your tribe and other details in the Settings tab. A complete profile gets far more engagement from other members.

The sidebar on the left is your main navigation. It contains links to all sections of BlackBook: Discover, Feed, Messages, Friends, Groups, Events, Booking, Shop, and more. On mobile it collapses — tap the ☰ menu icon in the top-left to open it.

Your Profile

Go to your profile page (click your name or avatar anywhere on the site). Hover over your avatar circle — a camera icon will appear. Click it, select a photo from your device, and it will upload and update immediately.

On your profile page, click the Change Cover button that appears in the top-right of the banner area. Select an image — the ideal size is 2480 × 520 px (the same ratio as a SoundCloud banner). The image will fill the banner and crop to centre.

Go to your profile and click the Settings tab. Here you can update your display name, bio, location, age, tribe, position, body type, pronouns, what you're looking for, and your Spotify anthem. Click Save Changes when done.

Go to your profile and click the Photos tab. You'll see an Upload Photo button. Click it, select one or more images, and they'll upload and appear in your grid immediately. You can delete any photo by clicking the trash icon that appears on hover.

Go to your profile and click the Videos tab. Click Upload Video, select a video file from your device, and it will upload and appear in your grid. You can delete videos the same way as photos.

The Anthem is a Spotify track that plays on your profile. In the Settings tab, paste a Spotify track URL or embed URL into the Anthem field. A Spotify player will appear on your profile for visitors to listen to your chosen track.

The Cruise tab is only visible on your own profile. It shows a list of every logged-in member who has visited your profile, with their avatar, name, location, and the timestamp of their visit. Visitors are never shown this list — only you can see who's been cruising your profile.

The Blacklist tab lets other members leave you completely anonymous confessions — messages where the sender is never recorded. On your own profile, you can read, delete, or clear all confessions. On someone else's profile, you can leave them a confession of up to 280 characters. The sender's identity is never stored anywhere.

Vibes are personality reactions you can send to other members. There are 8 vibes: Magnetic, Mysterious, Bold, Dangerous, Soft, Intense, Untouchable, Electric. Each one has its own colour. Tap a vibe pill on someone's profile to send it — tap again to remove it. The counts accumulate on their profile as a personality fingerprint. You can't vibe yourself.

Any member can Recommend another member by clicking the Recommend button on their profile. The recommendation count and the avatars of recommenders appear below the profile name. You can un-recommend by clicking the button again. You cannot recommend yourself.

Discover

Discover is the member grid — a browsable collection of all active BlackBook members. Each card shows their photo, name, age, distance from you, and a green pulse dot if they've been active in the last 15 minutes.

Use the filter bar at the top of the Discover page. You can filter by tribe, age range, location, and more. Filters update the grid instantly. Click Refresh to reload with the latest members.

A pulsing green dot on a card means that member has been active on the site within the last 15 minutes. No dot means they haven't been seen recently.

Click the Nearest First toggle button in the top-right of the Discover page. The grid will re-sort so members closest to your saved location appear first. Click again to return to the default sort order. Your location must be set in your profile Settings for this to work accurately.

When you hover a card on the Discover grid, if you share friends with that person a small 👥 X mutual label appears. This shows how many friends you have in common, helping you decide whether to connect.

Scroll down on the Discover page to find the Who's Out Tonight section. Members can check in with their city and an optional note (e.g. "Drinks at The Box, hit me up"). All check-ins automatically expire at midnight. You can filter by city and see a live countdown to the reset. Click I'm Out Tonight to add yourself.

Messaging

Click the Message button on any member's profile, or go to Messages in the sidebar and start a new conversation. Type your message and press Enter or click Send.

When the person you messaged opens the conversation and reads your message, a small "✓ Seen [time]" label appears below your last read message. This tells you they've seen it. The receipt only shows on the most recent read message to keep the chat clean.

When you receive a new message from someone while browsing any page on the site, a toast notification slides up from the bottom-right corner. It shows the sender's avatar, name, and a preview of the message. It auto-dismisses after 6 seconds, or you can close it with the × button. Clicking it takes you to the conversation. If you're already in that conversation, the toast is suppressed.

Currently messages support text only. Media sharing via the activity feed and profile tabs is available.

Booking

BlackBook has a built-in Book a Date system. You can request a date with any member by choosing a date type (Hangout, Drinks, Movie Night, Hookup, Adventure, or Massage), picking a date and time, and sending the request. The other person receives a notification and can accept or decline.

Go to their profile and click the Book a Date button, or go to the Booking page in the sidebar and search for their name. Choose a date type, pick a date and time from the calendar, add an optional note, and submit your request.

Go to My Bookings in the sidebar. Here you'll see all incoming and outgoing booking requests with their status (Pending, Accepted, Declined). You can accept or decline incoming requests from this page.

Yes — in the Settings tab of your profile you can set your availability status. Members can see whether you're open to bookings before they send a request.

Shop

The Shop is an integrated store available in the sidebar. It sells products across five categories: Clothing, Sex Toys, Lubes, Toy Cleaners, and Lingerie. You can browse, filter by category, search, and sort by price.

Browse the Shop, click Add to Cart on any product. A cart sidebar slides open on the right. Adjust quantities, remove items, then click Checkout. You'll be prompted for your delivery address and payment details. Payment is processed securely via Stripe, which supports Google Pay, Apple Pay, and standard card payments.

Yes. All payments are processed by Stripe — a PCI-compliant payment processor used by millions of businesses worldwide. Your card details are never stored on BlackBook's servers. Google Pay and Apple Pay are also supported on compatible devices.

Yes — if you're on a device and browser that supports it (Chrome on Android for Google Pay, Safari on iOS/Mac for Apple Pay), the relevant payment button will appear automatically at checkout. No extra setup needed.

Social Features

Click the Add Friend button on any member's profile. They'll receive a friend request. Once they accept, you'll both appear in each other's Friends list. You can manage all requests from the Friends page in the sidebar.

The Feed page shows a timeline of posts from you and your friends — text updates, photos, and videos. You can post from the top of the feed. Like and comment on posts from others. Your own posts also appear on the Wall tab of your profile.

Groups are private or public communities within BlackBook. Go to Groups in the sidebar to browse, join, or create groups. Each group has its own feed, member list, and discussion space.

Events are organised gatherings created by the admin or members. Go to Events in the sidebar to see upcoming events, RSVP, and view event details including location, date, and description.

Found at the bottom of the Discover page. Members can check in to say they're out in a specific city tonight, with an optional note. All check-ins expire at midnight automatically. It's a real-time social layer — see who's out in your city and make plans.

The Lords Page is a special page on the site featuring a hero video, personal bio, and a food menu. It's accessible from the sidebar and is the site owner's personal showcase page.

Yes. All payments go through Stripe, a PCI-DSS Level 1 certified payment processor. Your card details are entered directly into Stripe's secure form and never touch BlackBook's servers.
